Dr. Birath provides comprehensive forensic neuropsychological evaluations for attorneys and their clients in criminal, civil, and medical-legal matters. His practice is based in Los Angeles and serves clients primarily in Southern California, although remote forensic consultation and evaluation services are available nationwide.

Criminal Forensic Evaluations

Dr. Birath is a member of the Los Angeles County Superior Court expert panel of neuropsychologists and is regularly retained by attorneys representing criminal defendants in the Los Angeles County Superior Court and Federal Courts. His practice focuses on serious criminal matters, including cases involving substantial sentencing exposure, indeterminate sentences, and capital punishment.

He evaluates neurocognitive and psychological factors relevant to pre-trial diversion and competency to stand trial, and provides post-conviction consultation in habeas matters for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and the Federal Public Defender.

Civil & Medical-Legal Evaluations

Dr. Birath provides forensic neuropsychological evaluations and consultation in civil and medical-legal matters involving cognitive impairment, neurological or medical conditions, and functional limitations. Evaluations are tailored to the specific questions presented in each case and may include assessment of cognitive functioning, review of medical and neuropsychological records, and opinions regarding the nature and functional significance of cognitive impairment.

He is available for attorney consultation, case review, and independent medical examinations (IMEs) involving neuropsychological questions in civil and medical-legal matters outside of workers’ compensation.
